Mini-Split Configurations
All mini-split systems will have an outdoor unit and at least one indoor unit. The outdoor unit has a fan, condenser and refrigerant line. The indoor unit has an independent thermostat, a blower and an evaporator.
The transfer of heat energy occurs between the outdoor and indoor units. Another reason mini-splits are easy to install is that conduit between them generally only requires a 3-inch hole.
Dual zone mini-splits come packaged with two indoor units. These can share an evaporator. In multizone setups, each unit has its own, and you can mix and match these configurations.
You can even have multiple units in a zone, such as a large living room. We usually mount them on the walls. But ceilings and floors are also options depending on the needs of your home.
If you currently have a mini-split that’s experiencing problems, you should consider mini-split repair before replacement. Common issues we can fix include excess condensation, the unit not draining, low refrigerant pressure, refrigerant leaks, odd smells, and so forth.
If you do need to replace your mini split, selective replacement may be an option. You often won’t have to swap out the entire system.
Ductless mini-splits provide you with many benefits:
- Integrated zoned HVAC
- Better indoor air quality
- Room-based temperature control
- Few if any installation requirements
- Suitable for disconnected living spaces
